Art in the Urban Landscape
Date
2023
Location
Liverpool, UK.
When most people think of Liverpool, they often think of the Beatles or Football. But another aspect which draws people to the city is its diverse urban street art. Street art in Liverpool encompasses various styles, from graffiti to large-scale murals that adorn the facades of some of the city's tallest buildings. It has been present in the city for many decades, from graffiti used as a form of self-expression to today's more intricate and sophisticated works of colourful art that can illuminate the landscape in which they are located.
Although the city's street art has been extensively photographed and shared globally, many only focus on the artwork rather than the environment where they are situated. Street art can be found adorning the walls of trendy bars and restaurants within the city centre, but equally found in neglected industrial areas and on dilapidated structures, bringing vibrancy and beauty to less affluent areas of the city. This photo essay will explore three areas of Liverpool: The Baltic Triangle, Anfield and Constance Street, highlighting the diverse forms of street art and the urban environments in which it flourishes.
